Who am I?
My name is Sam Hewitt and first and foremost (and most obvious), I am an Ubuntu user.
I am also a designer and developer on this platform. Aside from that I love to cook and share the food experience –which as a result, makes up most of my blog/social media.
When I'm not working or contributing to the projects I have involvement in, I'll be found either with a book or online gathering knowledge or voicing my opinion somewhere.

My Future with Ubuntu
Simply: to continue to use it, get excited about it and make things for it.
My goal, for a long time, has been to be involved in open source –the philosophy and structure has been both intriguing and welcoming, especially with Ubuntu and the community.
The community and the nature of open-source has allowed me to give back and apply my skills as a designer (and rudimentary developer) to help realize projects like Unity Tweak Tool.
Continuing to work as a part of Freyja Development building well-developed applications for my (and our) favourite OS.
Also, in my capacity as a writer on OMG! Ubuntu! I get to bring interesting and exciting news to the greater Ubuntu community.
What you'll find me doing
Lurking mainly on #ubuntu-design & #freyja-dev on IRC (and #gnome-design, if you're over on GIMPNet)
- Sometimes you'll find me arguing on behalf of Ubuntu as an alternative operating system.
- Making and posting foodstuff on the interwebs to tempt you all.
- Writing about Ubuntu, Linux and the community
- Designing things
- Making icons
- Hacking things
- Bug reporting/fixing
Testimonials
I have known Sam Hewitt for couple of months now as part of the Freyja Development team and his contribution to the team and to Ubuntu has been of high quality. He is very enthusiastic about his work and I highly recommend him for Ubuntu membership. -- jokerdino (Launchpad)
I have worked with Sam Hewitt for half an year in Freyja and I must say that his work is of high quality and Unity Tweak Tool wouldn't have been what it is now without his work. He is very enthusiastic about what he does and he tends to make it perfect. Another really valuable quality of his is that he tends to learn stuff really quickly and it really helps to have a quick learner jack of all trades in our team. -- me4oslav (Launchpad)
I've greatly enjoyed watching Sam and George inject some fresh enthusiasm around design, working with developers in the community to improve the interface and visual branding of their applications. Ubuntu has long been in need of a stronger community of designers, and the work and collaboration from these two guys has been exactly the kind of thing we need more of. I fully endorse Sam's bid for Ubuntu Membership. -- mhall119 2013-04-28 23:32:14
