Notes
Some of the hardware requires a bit of finagling to work, and I don't believe the wireless card (bcm4311) will work without the binary drivers with ndiswrapper.
3D
3D works great with the nvidia binary drivers, I haven't tried the open source ones yet. Just "sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx", then change the driver in xorg.conf from "vesa" to "nvidia", and add the "1280x800" mode for each color level.
Beryl
This was super easy! Just follow the guide here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BerylOnEdgy. If you already install nvidia-glx like I did, then just do the "Add 3rd party repos", and "Install Beryl" steps. After installing, you can run beryl-manager and be playing with beryl instantly!
Wireless
I tried several guides and this is the one that worked best for me: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Device/Broadcom_BCM4311_rev_01_%28ndiswrapper%29?highlight=%28WifiDocs%2FDevice%29 I installed network-manager and it works great for the most part. Sometimes the card doesn't wake up correctly on boot. I fiddled with it a lot, but the only workaround I found was just to keep restarting until it does come up correctly. Help! Maybe I'll post to the forums about it. Also, I have strange difficulties on my home WEP protected network that I don't have elsewhere so I assume it's just my network but if anyone else experiences it, please let me know. The symptoms are that I can only access certain domains. I haven't noticed any patterns but a crucial domain that doesn't work on my home network is www.google.com.
Webcam
Just install revision 62 of linux-uvc and modprobe uvcvideo and it works beautifully! Follow the instructions here: http://dollarunderscore.wordpress.com/2006/10/18/how-to-get-the-webcam-on-the-hp-dv2000-working/ There was a problem using amsn with the camera, but with the latest svn of the uvcvideo driver and amsn it works flawlessly!
