| I started to use Linux since 2000. The first Linux distribution I used and contributed to was [http://www.mandrivalinux.com/l10n/zh_TW.php3 Mandrake] (now known as [http://www.mandriva.com/ Mandriva]). I started to learn C/C++ using GCC on Linux and I am still doing it. I have been a Linux user from the first day I learned how to program. I used [http://fedora.redhat.com/ Fedora Core] 3 and 4, [http://www.gentoo.org/ Gentoo], and finally I am using Ubuntu and Kubuntu. I did most of my software development at [http://www.cwu.edu/ school] on Linux. You can check out some of the significant school work at [http://mathdev.sourceforge.net/old/school.html my SourceForge page] and my Professional certifications at [http://mathdev.sourceforge.net/old/certificates.html my SourceForge page] | I am a Ubuntu user since KUbuntu 5.10. I was surprised at the desktop user friendliness in Kubuntu. Although Microsoft Windows was still the major desktop operating system, I still like the simplicity of Ubuntu 6.06. Besides, I am an user in Ubuntu community. It's great to be part of the people who help improve the software quality of Ubuntu. |

| I started to use Ubuntu and Kubuntu because I found it simple to use and user friendly. Ubuntu and Kubuntu are excellent for desktops and laptops. Compared to Gentoo Linux, in which you compile everything from the source, Ubuntu and Kubuntu are more similar to Fedora Core, but they have more freedom and less distribution specific things. Besides that, I found Ubuntu and Kubuntu tend to have slightly higher performance than Fedora Core and Mandriva. Although you don't build everything from the source in Ubuntu and Kubuntu, you have a easy to setup and ready to use desktop systems. | Why Ubuntu? I've tried RedHat, Gentoo, Mandriva, and uClinux. Each distribution has its own focus. RedHat is like Windows 2000 data center for enterprise users. Gentoo is for people who'd like to have the ultimate control over the system regardless of the time spent working on it. Ubuntu satisfies my needs because it provides a simple system with 1 CD and great flexibility, so you can install all the other packages after the initial installation. |

My interest in Ubuntu
Why Ubuntu? I've tried RedHat, Gentoo, Mandriva, and uClinux. Each distribution has its own focus. RedHat is like Windows 2000 data center for enterprise users.
