About Me & Ubuntu
Progress
- 29/5/2011 I created my Launchpad account.
- 29/5/2011 I signed the Ubuntu Code of Conduct.
- 31/5/2011 I created my Ubuntu Wiki page.
10/6/2011 I joined the Ubuntu Australia LoCo team.
12/6/2011 I become Ubuntu Australia LoCo team's official team reporter.
Contributions
- I have been helping translations to en-AU.
- Educated most of my friends to Ubuntu and helped them out finding software that they need.
- I have been using Ubuntu since the start of 2008.
I have gone two UserDays sessions and plan on doing many more.
I joined the Ubuntu Classroom Team after the Oneiric UserDays sessions finished.
- I have been helping out in the #ubuntu-beginners-team and #ubuntu-beginners IRC channels.
Ubuntu in my School
Over the past 10 months I have been trying to get Ubuntu into my school. Sadly it has been a tough task as the school's IT people had no idea of what Linux or Ubuntu was. A few months ago I found out that the State Government organizes everything for IT in schools so this year I will see my new school and talk to them and if nothing there happens then I will talk to the State Government.
Non-Ubuntu (But still Linux related)
- I have became a official openSUSE Ambassador in July 2011.
Ubuntu Australia
I am very active in the Ubuntu Australia LoCo team.
Future Goals
I wish to ressurect UbuntuYouth however I would require help & assistance to do so.
Why I want to run for Ubuntu Youth Council
I would like to run for council because I have seen this team inactive for too long now, I would like to step up and do something to help the project get back up on solid ground.
Testimonials
If you know me and have something nice to say, please leave a comment below.
Benny, or benonsoftware on the IRC, has been a great help in term of classes. I have assisted two of them, and he did a great effort to have very good material, and explain things very clearly. After the oneiric User Days, he wanted to join the Classroom Team. I think *that* is the desire to help the community, and make a better world, going step by step. He really deserves it. Although I have not been involved with Ben on a specific project, he does seem enthusiastic in Ubuntu-AU events and meetings. Joel Pickett ~jpickett
I've worked with Ben in the Ubuntu Beginners Team - he is a proactive and enthusiastic proponent of Ubuntu. His help with the User Days enables more of those we wish to see using Ubuntu to do so - we need more people to do this. I have no hesitation whatsoever in supporting his application for Ubuntu Membership - forestpiskie
