Joining the Team

Joining the team is a fairly easy process, provided that you have patience.

  • Prospective members (seedlings) must have a light to moderate understanding of Ubuntu and Linux in general to be considered.
  • Prospective members (seedlings) must be active for at least a month before they can be considered as possible members.
    • Active is defined as being active on the Ubuntu Forums answering unanswered posts AND our IRC channel
  • Prospective members (seedlings) must have around 300+ posts on the Ubuntu Forums to be considered.
  • Prospective members must have been registered on the Ubuntu Forums for a while (3-4 months is good) to be considered.
  • Prospective members (seedlings) must be appointed by a existing team member to a popular vote in front of the team members in attendance that is to occur at every meeting where we have prospective members to vote on.
  • Prospective members (seedlings) are to abide by the rules defined on the page Rules

  • Prospective members (seedlings) will not be considered for a period of no less than two months after committing a serious offense against the UA team, in any team location, that may, did, will, or should require intervention of the administrators of those areas and that warrants severe punishment (example: A ban on IRC).

People wanting to join the UA team (seeds) must add themselves to the list of Seeds.

These requirements may seem a little daunting to people wanting to join the team, but they are as such to deter people just wanting to "collect icons" (people with no interest in the team itself - just wanting the status).

Prospective members may be appointed by any person on the team, and at any time before a meeting, as long as it is not directly before one. Prospective members are to be nominated on the Meetings page.

You can be active in the team by hanging out in our IRC channel, #ubuntuforums-unanswered on irc.freenode.net. Get to know some of the existing members, we don't bite :). This will also help you get a feel for how the team is structured and how it works internally.

If you have any questions about the joining process, feel free to ask the users of #ubuntuforums-unanswered on irc.freenode.net.
