Boosting the Real Time Performance of Gnome Shell 3.34 in Ubuntu 19.10

Daniel van Vugt in detailed blog, tells us what Gnome Shell really is, and the other parts that make Gnome shell work including mutter. Daniel gives some background of cold spots, hot spots and real time, and stuttering issues, before moving to real time bugs found and fixed in Gnome 3.34. Next Daniel covers bugs found but not yet fixed (some should be fixed by 3.36 for Ubuntu 20.04). and mistakes made that ideally won't be repeated, how Gnome faster on newer hardware, making it faster for older machines and a rough timetable on when Ubuntu users should see these results.

Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine) Gets First Linux Kernel Security Patch, Update Now

Marius Nestor informs us of a security patch available for Ubuntu 19.10 systems. Providing details of CVE-2019-18198 which is fixed with the patch, we are urged to upgrade asap, with links for more details provided.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) Daily Build ISOs Are Now Available to Download

Marius Nestor reminds us that Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is named Focal Fossa and is expected for release 23 April 2020. We are also told that daily images for 20.04 are now available for testing. Link to download the daily is provided.

Canonical Outs New Linux Kernel Security Update for Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04 LTS

Marius Nestor tells us that Canonical have released Linux kernel security updates for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Fixing a number of CVE vulnerabilities, the updates are also available for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS users using the HWE stack, with users advised to upgrade their systems.

UBports' Ubuntu Touch OTA-11 Released

Michael Larabel writes that the UBports community have released the eleventh over-the-air update to Ubuntu Touch. Described as a small release with on-screen keyboard improvements, Morph browser, improved push notifications and other updates/fixes. OTA-12 under development should include Mir 1.x support, Canonical's last version of Unity 8. Links are provided for more information, including details on the state of the Librem 5 port.
