With a very high standard of entries, we are warned that picking just ten isn't easy, but instructions are given on how we can vote.  We are also reminded that winning entries also gain entry into Ubuntu 20.04 LTS' competition. Robert Ancell blogs about attending GUADEC 2019 in Thessaloniki, telling us of Canonical Ubuntu desktop team’s attendance and other  companies and projects represented. He expresses his surprise in appearing in the most-merges list, plus provides links so we can watch all the talks recorded on Youtube. Robert especially highlights two talks: Britt Yazel from the Engagement team, and Georges Basile Stavracas Neto's talk on "About Maintainers and Contributors". Robert concludes with the observation of the growing interest in Snaps, and that he is glad to “be able to help people better understand them”.  Robert Ancell blogs about attending GUADEC 2019 in Thessaloniki, telling us of Canonical Ubuntu desktop team’s attendance and other companies and projects represented. Ubuntu Eoan Ermine 19.10 Community Wallpaper Competition - VOTING NOW OPEN!

Will Cooke tells us that we can now vote for which of the 160+ entries to make it into Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine. With a very high standard of entries, we are warned that picking just ten isn't easy, but instructions are given on how we can vote. We are also reminded that winning entries also gain entry into Ubuntu 20.04 LTS' competition.

GUADEC 2019 - Thessaloniki

Linux Application Summit - Barcelona

Alan Pope (popey) bespeaks of the Linux Application Summit taking place in Barcelona from the 12th to the 15th of November. The event focuses on acceleration of the growth of the Linux application ecosystem. Alan advises the event is organized as a collaboration with GNOME and the KDE community. A "Call for Papers" has been published and the team is seeking additional organizations to sponsor the event. Finally is an advisement for travel arrangements and funding for those aligned with the projects. Support links are provided for additional information.

Ubuntu Dock Might Start Showing Trash and Removable Device Icons

Joey Sneddon informs us that the Ubuntu Dock is learning new tricks in time for Ubuntu 19.10. The new tricks include the ability to display icons for attached devices like Unity's Launcher does, and perhaps a trash icon. Joey gives his opinions on it and sees no reason why they won't make it into 19.10.
