GCI [Google Code-In] Wrap-up

Nicholas Skaggs writes a wrap-up where he announces that 215 students finished more than 500 tasks in the Google Code-In (GCI) 2015 for Ubuntu. He thanks the students and their mentors and discloses the winners Daniyaal Rasheed and Matthew Allen as well as the finalists Evan McIntire, Girish Rawat and Malena Vasquez Currie.

Didier Roche: Ubuntu Make 16.02 brings Nodejs, Lighttable IDE, Spring Tools Suite and JetBrains' Datagrip

Didier Roche announces the latest release of Ubuntu Make, including support for nodejs and the LightTable IDE, as well as Eclipse-based Spring Tools Suite, and the DataGrip IDE for database administration and SQL development. Simultaneously, he points out a point release to fix Visual Studio Code. He also describes the particular members of the community responsible for these contributions.

Nicholas Skaggs: Prepping for a Summer of Code!

Nicholas Skaggs explains Ubuntu has applied to participate in Google Summer of Code, a summer program uniting university students and open source organizations to produce project ideas from the organization provided through mentoring. He invites mentors to sign up and provide ideas and offers resources for more information.

He continues that the GSOC takes place during May-August so if you’ve the skills & time, please consider putting your name forward (to mentor) Project ideas may be submitted by Feb 19, and friends may assist in the mentoring to reduce workload.
