Elizabeth K. Joseph: Ending my 6 year tenure on the Ubuntu Community Council

Elizabeth K. Joseph looks back at her time within the Ubuntu Community and the related projects that she has been involved with. She reminds us of her successes and recounts some of the difficulties that she has experienced during her time spent serving on the Community Council. Although Elizabeth is announcing her retirement from the Council she assures as that not only she will continue to contribute to Xubuntu, the Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter and Ubuntu California, but that “Some day I hope to come back.” In her summary Elizabeth writes; “I also love you all. Ian Weisser: Point New Participants to Find-a-Task!

Ian Weisser reminds us that Find-a-Task, introduced in January 2015, is the Ubuntu community's job board for volunteers at which they can browse the many ways to contribute to Ubuntu. Ian asks his readers to take a look at Find-a-task as there are listings suitable for many different skills and interests, including plenty of non-technical tasks.

Ubuntu Is Planning To Make The ZFS File-System A "Standard" Offering

Michael Larabel of Phoronix reports that Canonical is making plans to offer ZFS on Ubuntu "in some standard way" after Mark Shuttleworth responded to a user in a mailing list message. Michael explains how ZFS might be implemented and quotes a Gentoo developer who says that ZFS could potentially be included in Ubuntu 16.04.

False Rumors About Microsoft Buying Canonical Are Ridiculous

Silviu Stahie of Softpedia writes that the rumor that Microsoft is interested in buying Canonical continues to circulate and gives some reasons why the why the rumor is perfect for April 1st. He re-iterates the point that Canonical is Ubuntu and vice-versa, and that a big part of the value of Canonical is its community which “will be gone in the next second after the purchase.”

Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 Will Arrive on October 19 for All Ubuntu Phones

Marius Nestor of Softpedia relays the news from Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak that OTA-7 is planned for release on October 19th and that it will address many annoying bugs that have been reported by Ubuntu phone users. He adds that if all goes to plan both BQ and Meizu users will get the update at the same time.

Developer mariogrip gets cell and data working on OnePlus One

Silviu Stahi of Softpedia informs us that the developer working on a port of Ubuntu Touch to the Oneplus One phone has just reported that he has got cellular support and is one step closer to a finished build. The developer is quoted as saying: “Hint: cellular works on the Oneplus one. All i can say is that's it's really unstable, more news coming tomorrow with a new build coming to the devel branch (I'm gonna push it only to the devel branch (with no apparmor) due to how unstable it is)."
