The Planet

Multiple Posters: My role in Ubuntu

Several people who are also Canonical staff posted about their role in Ubuntu and related projects. Some are quite informative and some inspiring. Including summaries for each post would make this week's edition UWN larger than it already is, so we included simply the links:

Thorsten Wilms: Ubuntu Artwork Crisis

Thorsten discusses the state of the Ubuntu Artwork team. He talks about his own early motivation getting involved, the direction of the team, the role of the Canonical Design Team, the artwork it self and what currently works and not in the team.

http://thorwil.wordpress.com/?p=1062

=== Lucas Nussbaum: Helping improve Ruby on Debian and Ubuntu ==

Lucas created a wiki page that lists improvements and tasks for Ruby in Debian and Ubuntu. He stresses that many pending tasks requires only requires basic packaging skills to solve. If you'd like to get involved in packaging for Ubuntu, this might be a good way to get involved.

Jo Shields: Mono Mythbusting, September 2010 Edition

Jo has posted about Mono myths before. In this post he debunks some of the newer (and sometimes funny) myths regarding Mono that has been spreading across the Internet recently.

Adam Sommer - Ubuntu Server Guide Retrospective

Adam looks at the Ubuntu Server Guide development over the last release cycle. Packaged versions have been dropped, cloud sections have been updated and a new section for Puppet has been added.

http://adamsommer.blogspot.com/2010/09/ubuntu-server-guide-retrospective.html

Maia Kozheva: Dear Canonical, Redux

Maia voices her concern over a bug that has caused some stir about Canonical adding a default signature to Evolution that would append "Sent using Ubuntu" or similar text to e-mails. Currently there has been no indication that this will be changed before release, however, a separate bug to remove the text have been created.

Jonathan Jesse: A disappointing cycle for kubuntu-docs and a call for help

Jonathan points out his personal dissapointment with the Kubuntu documentation for the last development cycle. He also encourages people to join in and get involved for the next cycle and what *you* could do to get involved.
