About

The Ubuntu-mx is a group of persons interested in promoting, support and collaborate with Ubuntu in México. Our vision is to show the potential of the distro and make it a suitable option for schools, universities, workcenters and household usage. We also want to show that no one is alone by using Free Software, for one there are many in Ubuntu-mx willing to help and offer assistance.

The group is governed by the ubuntu-mx council (conformed by 4 ubuntu-mx members) which manage the more important resources which gives to the local team it's identity, forum, website, lp project, etc. Most of the decisions are taken in group by votes (we use meetology) in one of our two monthly meetings.

Our main focus has been to provide help to other Ubuntu users, we've started scheduling recently constant meetings in order to improve our projects and keep the community fresh. We've worked together to provide a podcast (currently halted), interpretation of the UDW, translation of Ubuntu, distribution of CD/DVD's and organization of Ubuntu events (UGJ, release parties). Our community is house of some long term contributors as you can see by looking at the official Ubuntu member lists, we redirect to other Ubuntu teams in order to work with testing, development and translation of Ubuntu, we don't believe in the duplication of efforts.

The ubuntu-mx team is a bridge between the local community and the formal Ubuntu teams, we try to help get started to new ubuntu-mx members to the activities they can do to improve Ubuntu via mainstream. We do that by running ubuntu hours where we introduce them to the testing, bugsquad and translators teams.
