How to Contribute

If you are confident with wiki pages then feel free to edit this page, add your article name, save the page, click the article name (to create a new page) and paste your story into that page and save it. Having all articles on the wiki allows community collaboration in enhancing articles /before they are placed into the magazine.

If you would prefer to use email, then please email your articles to articles@fullcirclemagazine.org and linuxgeekery will add them to the wiki for you. Please include all necessary images for your article in the email!

If you would like some ideas, have a [#head-69b38c9e0859305dfede9aeb03bf60f7056c7630 look here].

Guidelines

The single rule for an article is; it must somehow be linked to Ubuntu or one of the many derivatives of Ubuntu (Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu etc).

Please follow these rules :

  • Write your article in whichever software you choose, I would recommend OpenOffice, but most importantly - PLEASE SPELL CHECK IT!

  • In your article, please indicate where you would like a particular image to be placed.
  • Images should be either JPG or PNG. If you must use JPG please use very little compression.
  • Regarding image sizes; if in doubt, send a full size screengrab and we will reduce the size before publication.

We always need help with articles. Articles can be of anything as long as it follows the single rule mentioned above. If you can't write articles but hang out in forums, send us interesting forum threads that we could print. If your native language is not English, don't worry, write your article and one of us on the team will proof-read it for you, not only are you helping the magazine and the community but we'll help you with your English!

There are jobs for everyone so please, help out.

Article Editing on the Wiki

Collaboration between writers and community is highly encourage but can also destroy a writers article. Please; if you think an article needs major changes, contact the writer to discuss the changes first. Many writers do not want someone changing half their article, and rightly so...

Article Ideas

Add your ideas and articles into the correct category page below. If you want to use an idea for an article, please place your name beside the idea you wish to use. Also if you are working on an article, add it here and place your name beside it so that someone else doesn't work on a similar article.

Magazine Categories

/TheNews

This section is for news and info related to all flavours, and derivatives, of Ubuntu and within the Linux world in general.

/InstallOfTheMonth

Explain, step-by-step, the installation of an Ubuntu derived OS. What will it ask? What does it install? Not so much a review, more of a showcase.

/MyStory

This section could focus primarily on the average, everyday, non-techie who has made the switch to Ubuntu and has submitted their story.

/MonthlyLetters

Readers who have something to say or discuss. This would also include snippets from the various 'buntu mailing lists and forums. Entire, full, threads welcome.

/MonthlyReviews

Where readers can review software that they personally use, this can also include hardware but with hardware please state if the hardware comes with Linux 'drivers' or they have to be obtained elsewhere.

/HowTo

These would be, again, related to any Ubuntu derived OS. They must be detailed and have relevant screens where necessary. General rule; the more screens the better. Also the writer must say which 'buntu distros the article is applicable to. You can write on ANYthing you wish. Installing/configuring distro's, apps, games, whatever... as long as it runs on some form of Ubuntu.

  • Sonny.- I can do a full indepth use of many great apps, OpenOffice Calc (How to keep your income and expenses), GnuCash (Some small to medium accounting), OpenOffice Impress (Executive Pressentations, and advanced options), complete integration of an Ipod under Linux (Music, Photos, Videos, Podcasts, Cover-image, contacts), Integration of Evolutions for advanced office use, beautiful graphs with Rplot, among some other programs.

/MonthlyInterview

Where someone interviews a person within the 'buntu circle. This can be anyone from a forum mod to a 'buntu developer. Preferably the interviewee would be announced the issue before the interview, thus giving readers the chance to submit their questions.

/TheList

Here people can list/compile lists of their top 5, top 10 (or whatever) apps, games and other quirky Linux lists...

/MyDesktop

Readers can send in a screengrab of their desktop and explain how they got that desktop. What background are they using? What font(s)? Any extra widgets or applications that you had to install/configure?
