As development of a new release of Ubuntu begins, Canonical is sponsoring a week-long developer summit, gathering Ubuntu developers from around the world to help shape and scope the next release of our beloved distribution. The summit is open to the public, but be aware that it's an intense developer-oriented event, and participants should be prepared for hard-core low-level discussion. If you are ready for the challenge, the summit provides a great place to talk to core Ubuntu developers. The summit is not a conference, exhibition or other audience-oriented event, but an opportunity for Ubuntu developers -- who usually collaborate online -- to work together in person on specific tasks.

The way it works is pretty simple. Small groups of developers participate in short (45-60 minute) BOF sessions where a single project is discussed, and then document the outcome of the discussion in the form of a written specification. These specifications are used as the basis for planning the subsequent work of developing a new release of Ubuntu, as described in FeatureSpecifications and TimeBasedReleases.

Schedule

As we get closer to the conference, a schedule of work and activities will be organized and posted here.

How to Attend

All core Ubuntu developers will be in attendance, and anyone else who is interested or involved in Ubuntu is welcome to attend as well. You'll be collaborating with the lead developers and helping to define the concrete deliverables that make up the coming months of work.

While the developer summit is open, we do need to have an idea of who is going to be coming so we can plan the space requirements.

If you plan on attending, [:UbuntuDeveloperSummitMountainView/Attendees: add your details here].
