This page discusses the order in which templates are displayed in the list of Ubuntu templates . For example: https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+lang/en_GB

Goals

• highlight Ubuntu specific translations, ones not available in upstream projects
• highlight translations with a big impact to non-English speaking users
• create a minimum set of templates that will assure a usable system
• reduce the probability of having duplicate work by translating the same string upstream and downstream

Priority policy

This is an ordered list: lower numbers in the list have a higher priority.

1. Templates included only on the Live-CD (bootloader , installer) > 1000

2. Ubuntu, UNR, Kubuntu GUI specific templates 900 - 999
3. Templates changed in Ubuntu/Kubuntu 800 - 899
4. Templates with a high user visiblity and installed by default (like firefox, nautilus, dolphin) 700 - 799
5. Ubuntu-docs Kbuntu-docs Xbuntu-docs Edubuntu-docs .. other docs 600 - 699
6. Ubuntu, UNR, Kubuntu CLI specific templates 500 - 599
7. All other library templates 400 - 499
8. All other GUI templates 300 - 399

9. All other text mode apps templates < 299

LiveCD templates

Rationale:
 * They have a shorter deadline and also are one of the first apps user gets in contact with.
 * A full review of the system will also include the install process
 * Many users just try the livecd so it's important to have the booloader translated

Translations in Rosetta but not included in language packs

There are a couple of exceptions for translations done using Rosetta but not included or updated via language pack.

Those translations are Ubuntu Documentation, Ubuntu Start Page and other tools only available on the Live CD or install media. Please see the following list:
