This page discuss the order in which templates are displayed in the list of Ubuntu templates .

https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+lang/en_GB

Priority policy

This is an ordered list: lower numbers in the list have a higher priority.

The rationale for each category can also be found on this page.

  1. Templates included only on the Live-CD (bootloader , installer) > 1000

  2. Ubuntu/Kubuntu specific templates 900 - 999
  3. Templates changed in Ubuntu/Kubuntu 800 - 899
  4. Templates with a high user visiblity and installed by default (like firefox, nautilus, empathy, dolphin) 700 - 799
  5. Ubuntu-docs Kbuntu-docs Xbuntu-docs Edubuntu-docs .. other docs 600 - 699
  6. All other library templates 500 -599
  7. All other GUI templates 400 - 499
  8. All other text mode apps templates < 399

LiveCD templates

Rationale: They have a shorter deadline and also are one of the first apps user gets in contact with.

Ubuntu specific packages

Rationale: Most of those packages don't have upstream translations. Also being Ubuntu specific means there are no other translations projects working on them.

Shared packages containing Ubuntu changes

Rationale: Some text in those packages are Ubuntu specific so they can not be translated upstream. This is why we should list them before any other packages with upstream translations.

Templates with a high user visiblity

Rationale: These apps are very important to average users and should be amoung the ones used 90% of the time.

  • firefox xulrunner
  • GNOME: gtk nautilus gnome-panel
  • KDE: qt dolphin
  • FreeDesktop.org: xdg-user-dirs xdg-user-dirs-gtk
