THIS A WORK IN PROGRESS - THE MENTORING PROGRAM HAS NOT STARTED YET

The goal of the mentoring program is to help people starting to contribute to Ubuntu via the [:ServerTeam:Ubuntu Server Team]. If you're a overwhelmed by the amount of information available and don't really know how to get started, you can ask to be part of this mentoring program.

The program is lightweight and aims at helping you to take the first steps in contributing.

What will a mentor provide ?

The role of the mentor is to help the new member choosing and starting to contribute in an area he has interest in.

The mentor will:

  • present existing processes
  • point to existing communication channels
  • link to key members of the ServerTeam and Ubuntu in general.

  • sponsor one upload if the contribution is packaging related. Other uploads must go through the standard sponsorship process.

Even though the initial communication can be hold privately, the mentor should push for using public channels (IRC channels, existing mailing lists) in order to fully integrate the new member in the team.
