Notes

Note: testing Breezy and Dapper Flight (dual-boot)

  1. DPI setting: I have set it to 100 DPI which looks right for 1920x1200 display.

    • By default, DPI was set to 147, 145 according to /var/log/Xorg.0.log. You need to change ServerArgsLocal variable in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc and add -dpi 100 string. BR Note: you may need to redo this after KDE upgrades. Note: there are discussions that something will be done in regards to font size - see ["Kubuntu/Meetings/16-02-06"].

  2. Special keys: by default only brightness keys work.

    • keycode 187 = XF86Launch0
           keycode 148 = XF86Launch1
           keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute
           keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume
           keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume
           keycode 223 = XF86Sleep
           keycode 244 = XF86Launch2
      • Hi Luka. This should be remapped in 'hotkey-setup' so that you don't need to load a separate X keymap. Could you drop to a console (Ctrl-Alt-F1 and login) and run 'showkey -u', I'm after keycodes that look like 0xe0 0x?? and then file these above, many thanks -PaulSladen

This should be handled by proper Keyboard Layout in X.org - as a workaround you can select "Laptop/notebook Compaq (eg.Armada)" layout which will enable at least audio keys.

      I have submitted bug to bugs.freedesktop.org - see [https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5893 bug 5893].

  3. KsCD: does not play audio CDs

    • CD/DVD works with Amarok, K3B and similar, but it does not play audio CDs with default player (KsCD). BR Workaround: Configure KsCD -> CD Player and enable "Use direct digital playback" BR If this does not work, try changing "Select audio backend:" to arts (instead of alsa).

  4. fglrx drivers from ATI: make 3D acceleration and hibernation work

    • Breezy: BR I have installed ATI drivers for FireGL, version 8.19.10 from www.ati.com. I have used the instructions listed under ["BinaryDriverHowto/ATI"]. BR Note: you should remove restricted packages from machine before doing the install (sudo apt-get remove linux-restricted-modules-$(uname -r)). BR Dapper: BR Install xorg-driver-fglrx and fglrx-control packages and specify fglrx as Driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

  5. Dapper Flight 2: eth0 down after boot - FIXED in Flight 3

  6. Dapper Flight 3/4: monitor sync ranges not autodetected (blank screen after install)

    • I had to manually add sync ranges to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I had to add the following lines to Monitor section:

    • HorizSync 73.2
              VertRefresh 60

Note: I got this numbers from Breezy /var/log/Xorg.0.log where autodetectection works. Note: I just switch to fglrx in Flight 4 - less problems in general.

  7. Dapper Flight 4: ipw2200 module need hwcrypto=0 to work

  8. Next note should go here...
