Notes
DPI setting: I have set it to 120 DPI which looks right for 1920x1200 display.
By default, DPI was set to 147, 145 according to /var/log/Xorg.0.log. You need to change ServerArgsLocal variable in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc and add -dpi 120 string. BR Note: you may need to redo this after KDE upgrades.
Special keys: by default only brightness keys work.
For others, I have [http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase/userguide/adding-extra-keys.html extra keybindings] and added appropriate actions with [http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase/userguide/keys-for-scripts.html KHotKeys in KControl] (do not know why Kubuntu System Settings do not have KHotKeys). I have added the following keycodes to my ~/.Xmodmap:
keycode 187 = XF86Launch0 keycode 148 = XF86Launch1 keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume keycode 223 = XF86Sleep keycode 244 = XF86Launch2In order to apply this during logging into KDE, add the following to the beginning of your /etc/kde3/kdm/Xsession file:
if [ -f $HOME/.Xmodmap ]; then /usr/bin/xmodmap $HOME/.Xmodmap fiThis makes Audio keys to function, but I still need to find proper actions for KHotKeys for Info, Presentation, Sleep and Battery key.
KsCD: does not play audio CDs
CD/DVD works with Amarok, K3B and similar, but it does not play audio CDs with default player (KsCD). BR Workaround: Configure KsCD -> CD Player -> Select audio backend: set it to arts (instead of also).
fglrx drivers from ATI: make 3D acceleration and hibernation work
I have installed ATI drivers for FireGL, version 8.19.10 from www.ati.com. I have used the instructions listed under ["BinaryDriverHowto/ATI."]. BR Note: you should remove restricted packages from machine before doing the install (sudo apt-get remove linux-restricted-modules-$(uname -r)).
Next note should go here...
