Notes
Note: testing Breezy and Dapper Flight (dual-boot)
Default font sizes: default font size is huge on 147 DPI display
I have changed proposed solution, based on AchimBohnet hints and recent work done by Kubuntu developers to solve this issue in Dapper. BR Breezy: BR By default, fonts are huge and you should reduce them by 2 or 3 pt (7-9pt is OK). BR Dapper (as of 2006-02-23 update, confirmed with Beta): BR Default fonts sizes were recently reduced to nice state, therefore out-of-box setup looks great (thanks to _Sime, Tonio...). BR
Special keys: by default only wireless and brightness keys work (as they are HW keys).
- I have installed also Ubuntu Beta to compare with Kubuntu: This should be handled by proper Keyboard Layout in X.org - as a workaround you can select

"Laptop/notebook Compaq (eg.Armada)" layout which will enable at least audio keys. BR I have submitted bug to bugs.freedesktop.org - see [https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5893 bug 5893]. Proposed changes were commited to source on 2006-02-22.
- I have installed also Ubuntu Beta to compare with Kubuntu:
KsCD: does not play audio CDs
fglrx drivers from ATI: make 3D acceleration and hibernation work
Breezy: BR I have installed ATI drivers for FireGL, version 8.19.10 from www.ati.com. I have used the instructions listed under ["BinaryDriverHowto/ATI"]. BR Note: you should remove restricted packages from machine before doing the install (sudo apt-get remove linux-restricted-modules-$(uname -r)). BR Dapper: BR Install xorg-driver-fglrx and fglrx-control packages and specify fglrx as Driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Dapper Flight 2: eth0 down after boot - FIXED in Flight 3
Dapper Flight 3/4 & Beta: monitor layout not autodetected (blank screen after install)
Default X driver ("ati") does not properly enable flat panel (even though that it detects it), this is why you need to manually specify monitor layout in "Device" section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:
Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,NONE"
"ati" driver also does not properly detect screen size, therefore causing default 75 DPI to be used (instead of 147 DPI). You need to manually specify screen size in "Monitor" section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:
DisplaySize 330 210
Dapper Flight 4: ipw2200 module need hwcrypto=0 to work - FIXED in Flight 6
Dapper Beta: after opening lid, display is in wrong resolution
When closing lid, display is blank as it should, but after reopening I just get completely strange resolution as I can only see what is the mouse arrow (which is approfimately 3 times the original size and streched). BR Workaround: you can get back to normal by switching consoles (Ctrl-Alt-F1, Ctrl-Alt-F7).
Next note should go here...
