Comments:

• Network shows DISABLED probably because I installed the proprietary driver for Broadcom. I am actually connected to the internet at this moment.
• My RAM is actually 4 GB in BIOS.

Testing Results for UBUNTU 8.10 (DESKTOP)

Events in time order:

• Wireless networking works fine in live mode.
• Ubuntu Installed successfully.
• Wireless networking fine.
• Updated successfully.
• Added Persian(Iran) keyboard layout: Ctrl+C combination does not work properly in text environments (especially terminal) (tested in both BrE and USA modes). Had to remove the Persian layout.
• Went into sleep mode successfully.
• Wake-up from sleep mode failed.
• Did not recognize Dell USB Modem shipped with the laptop (Trade Name: Conexant RD02-D400).
  • wvdial says:

    •    --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
         --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory
         --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory

• Ekiga did not recognize microphone, integrated webcam, and could not dial.
• Don't know any way to test fingerprint device.
• Laptop sound control keys don't work.
• Went into hibernation by pressing laptop's sleep key Fn+F1(!!)
• Wake-up from hibernation failed.
• Wired (LAN)networking works fine.

• Administration --> Hardware Drivers:

  • proprietary driver for network card installed successfully.
  • Problem installing graphics driver, I had to quit the installer.

  • Administration --> Hardware Drivers shows graphics driver activated. Not asking for restart.

  • Running Administration --> Hardware Testing failed on graphics test (color bars)

  • I Deactivated and reinstalled the graphics card. This time installation finished and asked for restart.
  • After restarting Hardware Testing passed successfully.
• Added the Persian layout: the problem seems to be gone.
• Wake-up from sleep mode seems to be working properly now (don't know due to which change). The only remaining problem is the detection of external modem.
