أهلاً و سهلاً / Greetings

About Me

An IT professional born 1979 from Egypt whose goal is to spread the idea of Open Source to everyone I encounter. Welcome to my world of Ubuntu Linux.

Ubuntu Usage

Started with Ubuntu Feisty (7.04) when it first was released. I must say I have stuck with this distribution ever since. Running Ubuntu Server on a P3 box, just as a file server. My main workstation cpu[Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz SMP (2 processors), 2992.688 MHz (11975.84 bogomips) | chipset[Intel Corporation 82875P/E7210 Memory Controller Hub (rev 02)] | video[nVidia Corporation NV40 [GeForce 6800 GT] (rev a1) at 1680x1050 (32 bits)] | opengl[GeForce 6800 GT/AGP/SSE2].

Translations

As a native Arabic speaker, I've done some translations for Ubuntu, Ubuntu Tweak, Deluge BitTorrent, Griffith and Blueman. https://launchpad.net/~sambuntu

IRC Support

You'll find me providing tech support/installation assistance/the odd joke here and there on Efnet in #linpeople, #linux-noob, #ubuntu, #redbuntu as HardDisk. Freenode #ubuntu, #ubuntu-eg (Channel Op), #eglug and #ubuntu-us as HardDisk. So pop in at anytime and let's fix something Smile :)

Promoting Ubuntu

I have distributed self made and official ubuntu cd's (which have been shipped to me whenever possible) to approximately 73 people so far. I have been successful in implementing Ubuntu as a server for three corporate soho users, as well as 19 individuals as a Desktop replacement (not including 4 of my neighbors).

Recently I had started a dedicated blog for Ubuntu http://sambuntu.blogspot.com and hopefully with time will write up tips, tricks and small articles that may help the average ubuntu user.

Goals

To keep fighting the good fight, and maybe one day with the little work I've done might be officially considered an Ubuntu member.
