My work with Open Source

Xubuntu

Dates and titles

  • Joined the Ubuntu community in September 2008 and started working with Xubuntu right away

  • Xubuntu Marketing Lead from September 2008 to April 2010

  • Xubuntu Project Lead from October 2011 to April 2014 (candidacy pages: 2011, 2013)

Tasks I've been involved with

  • Marketing efforts, including web design and work on increasing social media participation
  • Desktop suites (including wallpapers, themes etc.) both directly and via the Shimmer Project
  • Work on improving the team structure, processes and process descriptions, including a Strategy Document review and rewrite
  • Complete documentation rewrite organization, including enabling translations
  • Administrating, moderating and operating on IRC, mailing list, website and social media outlets

...and many small to medium size projects and responsibilities within several teams, including Ubuntu Studio, documentation, quality assurance and more.

Outside Ubuntu

Before Xubuntu, I worked with user support and the Rokymotion marketing team in the Amarok project for about two years from 2006 to 2008.

In 2010, I founded the Shimmer Project with Steve Dodier. The Shimmer Project is still contributing artwork for Xubuntu, but has since gathered much broader audience. Maintained projects include the Albatross, Bluebird and Greybird desktop suites and the "Shimmer" layout, extension and modification for gmusicbrowser.

I've also been working on some WordPress plugins.
