My relationship with Ubuntu

Discovering Ubuntu and the free world

I first used Ubuntu in October 2010 when 10.10 was released. I discovered it by accident as I was surfing the Web. It piqued my interest as a different operating system and I never had seen before any free operating system. Until then I was clearly only a Windows user. I had never read before about open source and free software. Then Ubuntu booted for first time on my PC. Outstanding . Stable - Fast (very fast) - no need for external device drivers - everything worked out of the box!

Using Ubuntu

Well, dealing with Ubuntu was fairly easy. I first used GNOME 2.x (Ubuntu 10.10). When Unity first appeared (in 11.04) I initially didn't really like it. As soon as I started using it, I found that it was very usable. Easy to find anything with fewer clicks. I got used to working with this easy environment and I do my work better now.

Future

I will continue to use Ubuntu as my main OS and contribute with anyway I can to spread Ubuntu and make it better for everyone.

- I am Filippos Kolyvas (aka fkol k4), member of the Greek Ubuntu community and of the Ubuntu Greek Translators team. Being a member of the Greek Ubuntu community for more than 1.5 year, has given me the opportunity to get to know some remarkable people. Without a single doubt, i can say that NikTh is one of the most remarkable. I find it very impressive that he spends such a vast amount of his time per day contributing in every way possibly imaginable, either guiding new and inexperienced members through their problems or even simple questions in many different places, either performing moderation tasks on the almost 10000 member Ubuntu-gr forum, or even contributing to the Greek translation of Ubuntu. All that, being always polite and patient, and respecting the Ubuntu code of conduct. I think that NikTh would be a valuable addition to the Ubuntu community as an Ubuntu member.
