The New York State Ubuntu Local Team is a group of volunteers and advocates united by a commitment to open source software and Ubuntu Linux. We work with all types of users including business, educational and home users. We believe that by brining the freedom of choice, power of community and stability of Ubuntu Linux to the public, we can change the face of computing for the better.

What We Do

  • Support Ubuntu Locally
    • Support existing local Linux user groups
    • Partner with local computer user groups to assist with Linux events
    • Hold educational sessions open to the public
    • Host and assist with Linux install fests
  • Support Ubuntu at the state level
    • Assist New York State Ubuntu users with finding:
      • Local Linux groups
      • Local computer retailers that support Ubuntu and Linux
  • Ubuntu Activism
    • Advocate for the adoption of Ubuntu:
      • Schools
      • Libraries
      • Businesses
      • Families and individual users
    • Assist local computer retailers with adopting Ubuntu
    • Educate local computer retailers and consultants about Canonical partner programs
  • Assist our members grow in the global Ubuntu community
    • Help our members find Ubuntu teams that align with their personal interests
