The New York State Ubuntu Local Community (LoCo) Team is a group of volunteers united by a commitment to Ubuntu and free and open source software (FOSS). The team advocates and supports Ubuntu for home, business, and educational use in New York State. By bringing the freedom of choice, power of the community, and stability of Ubuntu to the public, the team believes it can change the face of computing for the better.

Roadmap

• Support Ubuntu locally

Experience

• Expand local area meet-ups

  • Rochester

    • 13 events in 2009 including participation in the global bug jam and several how-to demonstrations that were open to the public.

  • Rockland County

    • one meet-up held

  • Syracuse

    • one strategy meeting held; members attend local lug (SYRLUG)

  • Fingerlakes

    • ausgimage co-founded new regional LUG

    • held state wide launch party and public information event for 9.04

  • Ithaca

    • Presented at EdTech Day 2009 at the request of the Ithaca Free Software Association

    • Ithaca Free Software Association came to 9.04 launch party

• Develop relationship with RCSI (Rochester)

  • Person leading the RCSI Linux SIG is a member of the NY State LoCo and more co-sponsored events are planned for the fall

• Develop relationship with LUGOR (Rochester)

  • cprofitt is currently acting as the lead contact person and organizer for LUGOR
  • several events have been co-sponsored with LUGOR
