I have postponed my Ubuntu bonus projects for the time being. Im in this for the long haul. This debate may take a long time. I spent the last 2+ years to help change the Team I love. Yes love. I felt passionately about what I advocated. This issue unlike my actions before is righteous and with moral cause to a fundamental level. Personal liberties are foremost, whether a person or a group. It's a movement. My journey into Open Source began with an interest in some cool programs Gimp, & some other stuff I knew had some sort of philosophy behind it. I tried to get it working on Linux, with various results. OPEN SOURCE extends some of these ideas into a legal framework. My goal was to start a dialogue with idealists, geeks & creative types CREATIVE COMMONS is a great example of the spirit of open source. Transparency is not a ship that steers itself. Citizens must be involved, follow up, & be engaged If we truly want to create change; it takes involvement. Larry Lessig is doing what he does well - creating a dialog & forcing people to examine their surroundings. There are many common themes in community developed software. Sometimes we can miss them when we represent personal interests - at the wrong time. To help your cause, you may need to represent the bigger picture. It will help your sacred cow in the long run anyway. Sharing Ubuntu The Ubuntu Philosophy can be great. I like it so much I volunteer to go teach others about it. Open Source is a philosophy, one that I continue to learn more about . Linux needs a to appeal to more than just a niche group. | ## Someone in Cali had planned to have a local Team table at OSCON. Due to work they could not attend. I stepped forward and helped organize it. I arranged for SWAG to be donated to draw folks in. The booth had people from Cali, Washington, and a few other people that helped share the Spirit of Ubuntu. We gave out almost 500 hundred CDs. They arrived late, ( my fault on that) I still owe 20 bucks for them being re-shipped to Oregon from down south. ## * I have failed miserably at trying to help Oregon's Ubuntu happenin'. I am not their enough to do so. Maybe it is because I am better suited for doing things in person. (I'm not really good at IRC, I know that.) My strengths involve face to face interaction is my nearest guest. ## I have a talk ( scheduled for more than a year) at a great local LUG. The original subject was Ubuntu; an overview of 10.10 and the path for the future. It will only stay that way if the group is *respected* and given a voice on logging. I really, really, really, wish I did not feel this strongly. I do though. To my core. You don't have to agree with me. this goes to my core beliefs. ##I could no sooner abandon my belief that all people are equal, that color is not important, who people choose to love is nobody's business, that women are equal and should be given a fair shake to prove their worth, and that redemptions should always be possible. You have a right to believe in God(s), Goddeses, or nothing at all, that is your right to express *who* you are. |
