I am a software developer and Linux Sysadmin. My core software skills include Java, Oracle, XML & web services, whilst on the hardware side I have knowledge of Sun and Intel kit running Solaris, Windows and several Linux distros. I have a reasonable working knowledge of Xen for commerial VPS provisioning for running multiple instances of JBoss on a single physical server.
I currently have one Ubuntu installation, on a Sony VAIO A497XP - and am battling to get it working completely... more on this can be found here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/SonyVaioA497XP
I have experience of Redhat 6.2 upwards to FC4 and Redhat Enterprise Linux and CentOS. I have recently started investigate Debian-based distros, and got into Ubuntu after reading many good articles and postings about it. It does appear to have the most advanced support for laptops, especially for Bluetooth and LCD screen controls, which are major strong points!
I'll probably update this with some more useful information at a later date, or alternatively, forget all about it
