Hello $REPRESENTATIVE_NAME
I am writing to you today to express support for the use the Free and Open Source software (FOSS) . As an Ubuntu user, I am troubled by some of the issues that prevent the adoption of FOSS, including legal barriers and simple misunderstandings. FOSS is a great tool for many students and schools, as the software is not only freely available, but also change and look at the underlying blueprints, the code. It also helps spur the local economy, allowing small software companies to compete effectively with the larger competitors. Today I am also asking for a few things:
- Support Free and Open Source software in schools by talking with your fellow elected representatives and school officials to understand how they can use this great software to help reduce education budgets, but also produce better educated children, as they have access to the underlying blueprints (the code) of the very software they are using on a daily basis.
- Encourage local businesses to support and use Free and Open Source software, pointing them at the appropriate tools, in conjunction with local advocates such as myself.
- Understand how legal barriers to adoption of Free and Open Source software can harm the local economy and hurt the education of the next generation.
Thank you for your time. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reply and I can help understand further.
Yours,
