Current Issues

After the laptop has been in sleep the harddisk will not spin down (laptop on battery). Looking at the output of hdparm it is clear that the -B switch of hdparm now has a higher value, 128 compared to 0 before the laptop was put to sleep.

Hibernate will make the computer freeze after wake-up and the boot process. The desktop never appears only the boot process followed by a blank screen. The same has been tested many times with Ubuntu Hoary and worked fine.

UPDATE: Installing Colony 4 did _not_ change on this problem.

Unplugging the AC power from the computer will make the computer freeze after about a minute. However, the opposite - going from battery to AC power - is no problem. The bug can be reproduced over and over again. Also, this is true for both Ubuntu Hoary and Breezy!

Noticeably, a test with the Linux distribution "Mandriva Limited 2005" showed that the problem does not exist in Mandriva Linux. The computer will not freeze when unplugged from AC power thereby isolating the problem to Debian/Ubuntu.

UPDATE: After installing Colony 4 the problem seems gone! Further testing today and tomorrow needed to be sure.

Wireless nic does not get started correctly at boot. The interface is started according to ifconfig and has an ip address set (static ip address) but no connection.

The side-effect of this bug is that when the ethernet nic is not used ntpd will try to connect on the wireless interface and will wait for timeout - about a minute or so.

The bug can be reproduced in both Ubuntu Hoary and Breezy.

UPDATE: This bug seems _not_ to be constrained to boot up. Also when manually trying to bring up the interface it will fail now and then. It seems there is a difference between restarting the networking services and just calling ifup/ifdown. Restarting the network services seems to solve the problem compared to multiple tries to bring up the interface with ifup/ifdown calls.

** Turns off screen and when lid is opened the "lock screen" dialogue appears. I suppose the correct behavior would be for the computer to go to sleep or hibernate when lid is closed.
