I have not had much success with XGL and Compiz on my laptop. However, AIXGL and Compiz works for me with current Edgy. Since AIXGL is not in the Ubuntu repos I had to use packages from [http://www.beerorkid.com BeerOrkid].

UPDATE: This bug seems to be solved though very rarely it seems to show up again.

When trying to bring up the wireless interface card the card is unable to associate with the access point. dhclient is run and fail to retrieve an ip address.

The bug can be reproduced in Hoary, Breezy and Dapper + daily updates.

Current Issues

UPDATE: I have not been able to reproduce this bug in Dapper Drake Flight 3 + 4. Though in Dapper Drake Flight 5 it reappeared all the time and I have had to disable laptop-mode completely.

Unplugging the AC power from the computer will make the computer freeze after about a minute. However, the opposite - going from battery to AC power - is no problem. The bug can be reproduced over and over again. Also, this is true for both Ubuntu Hoary and Breezy!

Noticeably, a test with the Linux distribution "Mandriva Limited 2005" showed that the problem does not exist in Mandriva Linux. The computer will not freeze when unplugged from AC power thereby isolating the problem to Debian/Ubuntu.

Note - I (Mike) don't see this at all. Bug duplicate (6108) updated.

["Fluffnik"] suffers (very slightly) from spotty buttons.

["ChristianElkjaer"] confirms this bug.

Notes

* Only by manually enabling this.

** Turns off screen and when lid is opened the "lock screen" dialogue appears. I suppose the correct behavior would be for the computer to go to sleep or hibernate when lid is closed.

*** Tested and worked in last Dapper Flight release

**** Does not 'just work' but with the following config file (I have my laptop to the left of my 19 inch monitor) for xorg.conf everything works fine and dandy (extended desktop) only tested with breezy, dapper (should work in dapper as well) was pissing me off. With a stock config I was able to get mirroring to work by just rebooting. (edit: after a bit i found out that DRI is thus disabled, there is slight hope that option "MergeFB" or something like that enables DRI with an extended desktop, but for now I am back to the stock xorg.conf with DRI until someone can figure it out, since I have no clue) --Thomas Wolfe * http://coolhair.blogspot.com/2006/04/had-to-post-somewhere-my-xorgconf-file.html
