| UPDATE: Need some time and testing to see if this bug is present in Dapper | I discovered some odd behaviour the other day installing the Hardy Heron Release Candidate. The laptop paused for a couple of minutes at the boot screen (with the Ubuntu logo and the progress bar). The hard drive LED was on and I thought it was frozen, however, suddenly it continued. The installation went well. |
| Line 20: | Line 44: |
| Unplugging the AC power from the computer will make the computer freeze after about a minute. However, the opposite - going from battery to AC power - is no problem. The bug can be reproduced over and over again. Also, this is true for both Ubuntu Hoary and Breezy! | Visual effects no longer works by the way. |
| Line 22: | Line 46: |
| Noticeably, a test with the Linux distribution "Mandriva Limited 2005" showed that the problem does not exist in Mandriva Linux. The computer will not freeze when unplugged from AC power thereby isolating the problem to Debian/Ubuntu. | I can no longer connect to my wireless network (WPA encrypted) using the Network Manager application. However, uninstalling the Network Manager and manually setting up the network in /etc/network/interfaces solves the problem. |
| Line 24: | Line 48: |
| Note - I (Mike) don't see this at all. Bug duplicate (6108) updated. | I added the following to /etc/network/interfaces: |

| UPDATE: Need some time and testing to see if this bug is present in Dapper | Based on emails I have received lately it seems that there is an issue with suspend / resume in some cases. However, I do not see it on my machine at all. As far as I have looked into this the type of video card seems not to be an issue. (Christian) |
| Line 32: | Line 66: |
| Wireless nic does not get started correctly at boot. The interface is started according to ifconfig and has an ip address set (static ip address) but no connection. | An old bug seems to reappear in feisty 7.04 (Herd 1). The wireless network card won't associate with access point when using WEP encryption. [SOLVED] |
| Line 34: | Line 68: |
| The side-effect of this bug is that when the ethernet nic is not used ntpd will try to connect on the wireless interface and will wait for timeout - about a minute or so. | Also, the wireless hotkey for turning the wireless network card on and off won't work. [SOLVED] |
| Line 36: | Line 70: |
| The bug can be reproduced in both Ubuntu Hoary and Breezy. Use of Fn + F5 to disable wireless after boot and quickly enabling it again by pressing same keys is a quick way to bring up the wireless nic. (Bug report [http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14805 #14805]) |

Current Issues
I discovered some odd behaviour the other day installing the Hardy Heron Release Candidate. The laptop paused for a couple of minutes at the boot screen (with the Ubuntu logo and the progress bar). I added the following to /etc/network/interfaces:
iface eth1 inet dhcp wpa-driver wext wpa-ssid <undisclosed> wpa-ap-scan 1 wpa-proto WPA wpa-pairwise TKIP wpa-group TKIP wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK wpa-psk <undisclosed>

An old bug seems to reappear in feisty 7.04 (Herd 1). The wireless network card won't associate with access point when using WEP encryption. [SOLVED]
Also, the wireless hotkey for turning the wireless network card on and off won't work. [SOLVED]

* Only by manually enabling this.
** Turns off screen and when lid is opened the "lock screen" dialogue appears. I suppose the correct behavior would be for the computer to go to sleep or hibernate when lid is closed.
