This test is community driven. For official one, performed on Canonical Ltd. supplied laptop visit this page.
Preparations
Here you can read some technical stuff about this model of laptop.
Enviroment
- All test were or will be performed on laptop that I use daily for different purposes.
I'll always use one partiton instalation ie. all system and user data will be placed on one "guest OS" partition (/dev/hda4).
I'll use swap partition which was created earlier for daily-used Ubuntu instalation (/dev/hda5).
- Sample instalation guide I might provide later.
Assumptions
all test were/will be performed with Final Releases of Ubuntu Desktop OS.
installation performed without network (fresh CD install),
some test were/will be performed with open source and with binary ATI driver,
- if something will start to work after update via network it'll be emphased.
- (dist-)upgrades were/will be performed only on base instalation +
- full system update,
- packages needed for proper laptop work (if any),
- ATI binary driver installed (but not used while upgrading),
WPA-enabled NetworkManager installed,
- Ubuntu localization packages installed (in my case for Polish language),
- if any problem occur I'll try to provide a way to solve it.

To bring blue Wi-Fi led to live follow these steps:create/edit /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200 file eg. Alt+F2 + gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200
add following text: options ipw2200 led=1
- reboot
[3] Additional software download needed + additional configuration
easy install with sudo aptitude install network-manager-gnome
- manual configuration needed
edit /etc/network/interfaces file eg. Alt+F2 + gksu gedit /etc/network/interfaces
comment all interfaces with # (with one exception ie. loopback interface - usually first two lines in this file.
I repeat DO NOT COMMENT LOOPBACK interface)
- reboot
[4] Managed to get it to work (following step from Linux on HP Compaq nx8220 notebook)
