Current Issues

  1. Need up-to-date drivers for better Desktop Effects support.
  2. Sleep and Hibernate put machine into a "coma" when using the ati proprietary video driver; the free driver works OK.
  3. The laptop Power button does not open the usual dialogue - launchpad bug #57872.
  4. The Bluetooth applet crashes when enabling/disabling bluetooth using the hardware button - launchpad bug #198481.
  5. The CPU frequency scaling is randomly set to "Performance", even when on battery. Opening "gnome-power-preferences" reverts to the proper behaviour - launchpad bug #202795.

Notes

1The Restricted Driver Manager found and installed a driver for my ATI Mobility Radeon X1350, however it didn't work with Desktop Effects (ERROR: Missing XGL). Instead of installing the xserver-xgl package, which seemed to disable/break Direct Rendering, I used Envy (which breaks full upgrade compatibility) to get it working 100%. Although I do not recommend using Envy, it was the simplest fix in my case.

2Sleep and Hibernate put the machine into a "coma". When put to sleep, no button or movement of the mouse will wake it up. When put to hibernation, it acts the same as when put to sleep. No slow flashing of power LED.

3Sleep and Hibernate work with the free video driver. Using the ati proprietary driver the machine does not resume properly - seems like a video problem, Alt+SysRq+RSEIUB works.

43D acceleration is only available with the proprietary ati driver, but it breaks Sleep and Hibernate. Compiz has small visual glitches.

5Sleep and Hibernate work only with the free video driver.
