Current Issues (with Dapper Drake Test Flight 4)
Screen should have been 1280x800 resolution and 60hz, instead it's listed as 1280x768 and 61hz. It looks good, though, except that during startup and shutdown, I can't quite see all of the messages. NOTE- I installed Dapper Flight 5 (32-bit) and it comes up as 1024x768, looks bad... I need to reinstall to verify it was not my mistake.
Touchpad scrolling - nothing works, and attempting to scroll down acts as if I right-clicked the mouse

Notes
BREEZY NOTES
Breezy testing was on 32-bit (standard) Breezy, for Dapper, I tested the 64-bit version (test flight 4). When Dapper is released, I will do a new install and verify these results.
The Launch keys are configurable under System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts. Where I have said they are "configurable", that means they are undefined out-of-box, but work after you manually configure them.
Sleep/standby seems quirky, however by closing the laptop and opening it again, that seems to reset everything.
Hibernate almost works; the system comes back alive, but keyboard input is not recognized. (a bit of a showstopper, but hopefully something that is easily fixed)
This sounds like it might be related to [https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32143 #32143] -PaulSladen
I did a not-so-thorough performance test to compare the difference between Breezy 32-bit and 64-bit ubuntu/imagemagick by running imagemagick's convert utility on the same set of 85 jpg images. It took 94 seconds on 32-bit, it took 77 seconds on 64-bit (an 18% performance boost)
DAPPER NOTES
As of Dapper Flight 5, "linux vga=771" was no longer necessary : At the "boot:" prompt (via the installation CD), boot with command "linux vga=771"
- (2/22/2006): I just applied the most recent Dapper updates, and now the battery monitor works perfectly! Closing the lid also now works after the updates were applied.
WIRELESS CARD NOTES
- In progress : ["AcerAspire5003WLCiWifi"]
- (3/14/2006) : I've now got the wireless card working in Dapper 64bit (via ndiswrapper).
- The chipset that the wireless card uses is 14e4:4318 (rev 02)
The driver I'm using : ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/ferrari_4000/driver/winxp64bit/80211g.zip
Visit the SetupNdiswrapperHowto and Broadcom43xx to get ndiswrapper working, but here are some brief notes :
- The card is listed as eth1 ( as opposed to wlan1 which is what most documentation assumes)
- first, remove the broadcom driver ($sudo rmmod bcm34xx)
- then add a line "blacklist bcm34xx" to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
- After that, $sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
- sub-Note : if you want to rmmod ndiswrapper for some reason, be sure that you've done "$sudo ifdown eth1" first - otherwise the system will lock up
The WiFiTroubleshooting is a good place to start troubleshooting
There's also WirelessTroubleshootingGuide
- This laptop has an illuminated button that turns wifi on and off. In XP it's lighted up if the card is active. This makes it tough to know what state the card is in prior to getting it set up in the first place (which hinders the troubleshooting process). I finally booted to XP so that I knew that it was on at the hardware level and was careful not to bump it after rebooting.
