Buran Ayuthia

Laptop: HP Pavilion dv6338se

Currently Running: Kubuntu Gutsy 64-bit

Kernel parameters: I had to add noapic and noirqdebug to get things up and running. The noirqdebug provides the USB ports to work and does not seem to affect the speed of the system.

Graphics Card Installation:

Used the linux-restricted-modules version. Worked without any changes to xorg.conf but have not tried it with compiz fusion.

To remove the X Error: BadDevice message when launching a GUI program at the terminal, I commented out the wacom driver information (from the InputDevice sections) and removed the stylus, cursor, and eraser options out of the ServerLayout section.

Wireless Card Installation:

I was able to get the wireless working with ndiswrapper-common and ndiswrapper-utils from the live cd (tribe-3). I had to download the HP driver to make it work (currently using SP34152). I ended up using ndiswrapper-1.48 because ndiswrapper-common and ndiswrapper-utils caused the screen to go black for a few seconds before it made the wireless connection.

The linux-restricted-modules also does provide bcm43xx-fwcutter also and does work. I did not use this version because I was getting a lot of retransmissions that I do not get from ndiswrapper.

Modem:

The modem is a Conexant version so I do not have it activated at this time because of the cost. Dell does provide a free version for the 32-bit version of Ubuntu and I have not tried it out as of yet.

Webcam:

It has been a while since I last tried this out. I think that installing libpt-plugins-v4l2 will make it work with Gutsy. I was only able to see myself in the webcam, but I kept getting messages about a firewall that is preventing me from making work for others to view.
