About Me

Hi, may name is Jared Norris, funnily enough. I'm a member of the Ubuntu-AU team. I live in Brisbane and have an assortment of Ubuntu installs at home ranging from 8.04 through until 10.04. I do not work in the IT industry and have had no formal training. I am the very definition of a weekend hacker of all things Ubuntu. Essentially I have taught myself purely by learning to love Google and the Ubuntu Forums.

Contributions

As I am not a very technical person I sometimes find it hard to contribute directly to the Ubuntu community as a whole. I am slowly starting to work my way into being constructive within the Ubuntu-AU team. I have volunteered to assist moderate the team's mailing list (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AustralianTeam/MailingLists) as this is within my scope.

I have also organised a local, free "Ship It" type service to local Australian members to try and get Lucid Lynx LTS out into the population quicker for those people who do not have access to broadband connections (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-au/2010-April/006033.html).

Future Goals

I hope to maintain an active presence in the Ubuntu-AU team and one day I might get a day off work to line up with one of the Brisbane meets (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AustralianTeam/Brisbane).

I'm am currently working on setting up a home file/print/web/email server so this might allow me to contribute more on the technical side of things when I learn how to get all these working.
