About Me
Name: Jamie Strandboge
Location: Central Texas, USA
Occupation: Ubuntu Security Engineer
Launchpad page: https://launchpad.net/~jamie-strandboge/
I have been using free software since 1997. I started with RedHat and shortly thereafter moved to Debian. In addition to various patches and the like, my largest contribution to free software prior to joining Canonical was creating and maintaining the Gnome2.2 backport for Debian Woody. In my consulting work, I supported Ubuntu, Debian, RedHat, CentOS, OpenBSD and pretty much any platform that used free software. My specific contributions to Ubuntu include:
UbuntuFirewall (author)
AuthClientConfig (author)
Contributor to QA Regression Testing (additions, fixes, new code)
Added enforcing apparmor profiles to openldap2.3 (slapd), mysql-server-5.0 (mysqld) and bind9 (named) into Hardy. This also included writing DebuggingApparmor and ApparmorProfileMigration (for migrating profiles from apparmor-profiles to the package providing the package)
- Added force-complain functionality to apparmor for debian-policy compliant maintainer script integration
Created the following sponsored security updates: elinks, emacs21, fetchmail, libmodplug, lighttpd, mysql, t1lib, xfsdump, tk8.4, tk8.3, libpng, nagios-plugins, util-linux, flac, and poppler. Also contributed to openssl update. Since I now have upload rights to the security queues, you can see my other updates on https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-security-announce/.
Fix for long-standing blank mysql root password LP bug #119075
Contributions to ubuntu-cve-tracker, the Security Team's CVE tracker
LDAPAuthentication (contributor)
Primary contributor for LAMP server test page (LP bug #135624)
- Contributions to libnss-ldap and libpam-ldap, particularly 258-1ubuntu1 and 184-2ubuntu1 (respectively)
Bug maintenance in Launchpad (primarily focused on ubuntu-security)
- Participated in MIR process for various packages (author, high-level audits)
- Merged libpam-ldap and libnss-ldap packages for Hardy
Contributed to various packages
- Sponsored various uploads for MOTU-Swat
Wrote vmware2libvirt and its corresponding man page (soon to be included in libvirt-bin in Hardy) and wrote section on migrating from VMware to kvm/libvirt in KvmVirtManagerEtc
- various bug fixes such as added personality support to sbuild-lvm in ubuntu-dev-tools and sqlite cookies database fix for python-launchpad-bugs
Made additions to and edited documentation for the SecurityTeam and wrote the UbuntuPentest/Coc
I am now employed by Canonical as an Ubuntu Security Engineer and am part of the Ubuntu Server Team.
