Guidance

Info: https://launchpad.net/bugs/203378 BR Kickoff Menu -> Favorites -> System Settings -> Display & Monitors (displayconfig) BR

Some modern video systems are configured automatically by Kubuntu Hardy's X system. These systems lack the traditional xorg.conf configuration file that displayconfig is designed to work with. Previously (in Gutsy and Hardy Alpha releases), displayconfig was non-functional for these types of systems. To setup displayconfig to work with automatically configured displays, the following steps are required:

  1. Open Monitor & Display from within System Settings window

  2. Obtain administrator rights by clicking on the Administrator button
  3. Select the appropriate monitor
  4. Apply the changes
  5. Restart X (logout and then select Restart X from the login menu)
  6. Open Monitor & Display from within System Settings window

  7. Obtain administrative rights by clicking on the Administrator button
  8. Configure the display settings to your liking
  9. Apply the changes

See https://launchpad.net/bugs/203378 for further details as well as the current status on the work to the displayconfig module of Guidance.
