Clear message

Former broadcaster residing now in Toronto. Spent much time on computers during and since that career. As you may guess sound is an interest and to that end he has started http://ubuntuvoice.com to provide an outlet for creativity and to help those who like recording and would like to take it up a notch. You are more than welcome to add in any way you can to the site or ask for help.

You can chose distros related to the art finer recordings. The point is not to rival that, but to be digital, clear, stable, easy to use. Ubuntu after much testing is the most stable and very practical tool for recording and dj work.

Husband, Grandfather of two, father of three, and Zissou's master.

Gord has worked in advertising, creating campaigns for many clients including the original Shania Twain fan club. He has recorded many things from commercials to narrations. He is heard on the 'demo' for Vision Studio, narrated the Abitibi Model Forest Tour, and Community Access Better Living - a fundraising CD of local talent.

As a live MC/DJ/Announcer he has worked in front of many crowds virtually and in reality; broadcasting live from Western Fair (London ON), many commercial sponsors and non profit organizations in addition to station promotional events for every station he has worked at including CFPL and CJBK London.

Gord has hosted events like; The CD Launch for Community Access Better Living, Michael Burgess with The Timmins Youth Singers. Gord has done hosted many events like Fall Fairs, Weddings, Corporate gatherings and is known for his interactive seemingly spontaneous approach. "Its a matter of doing my homework" he says, in order to appear off the cuff.

He honed his interview skills in part doing a Talk Show on the then 400 Station Talk America Network about the Internet.

Gord also created and taught a course on broadcasting. An applied course for people who were about to start working on a small Northern low power FM radio station. Much of Gord's suggestions were taken when it came to the design of the station as well. "I felt at the time, even though computers were more expensive than today, with the low power FM transmitter and the right computer, it was stable enough to be a viable thing. "

"That was a few years ago mind you, and now things have progressed rapidly from there. The paradigm of the news booth, the sound proof booth and so on is pretty much a thing of the past. You can do a fairly effective job with noise canceling technology in a quiet enough place." "What shocked me was the prices to be on the air effectively, went down from hundreds of thousands to single digits of thousands, including the transmitter and it used less electricity."

Ubuntu interested Gord as an avocation because "it came full circle media was now clearly in the hands of the masses, if they so desired to use it. " "My project" he summarizes "has to do with helping people be a little more effective with it, and perhaps encouraging them. I mean, I practically had to sedate myself the first time I was on air. I hope I can get people through that, give them some ideas based on my experience and let them loose. It would be interesting to see what comes of that, as Marshall McLulan sort of predicted "The medium is the message" because it is the "medium that shapes and controls the scale and form of human association and action." "To 'McLulanize' my thinking the medium is coming to the masses there is no longer mass media, there are only national networks."

"Ubuntu is the first free operating system I have seen that works out of the box with standard hardware. It has a lot of sound editors, and all of them sound better than many radio stations I worked at at a cost of far less than per unit than "cheaper radio station model" I was working with less than ten years ago."

"I am on board with it because there are those who could use the help of experienced people like myself to get them over the hump, that is the aim and goal of Ubuntuvoice, enabling through Ubuntu - meaning both the distribution and the social side of it."

Gord welcomes both experienced and inexperienced to his project, just sign up at the site. http://ubuntuvoice.com and your needs will be taken care of traveler.
