Linux/OSS Background
I've touched to some other Linux distributions before encountering Ubuntu. Since I began messing with Linux in or nearby 1998, i tried some others, like Slackware, Knoppix and [http://www.clarkconnect.com/community/ ClarkConnect] amongst others.
Most of my linux knowledge has been retrieved from Slackware, since I had to compile and configure pretty much anything by hand.
Goals with Ubuntu
Reguarding Bug #1, I may have a chance to make some actions in my local community. I'm currently working in the only used computer store in my town, and no one is promoting Linux or anything opensource related. Heck, i'm not even sure if there is STILL a LUG. My boss gave me the green light to start installing and/or promoting Linux, so I fetched some documents on the Marketing wiki pages and i'm starting to make it visible to clients passing by the store.
Currently, i'm waiting for shipit CD's, but in the meantime I made some homemade paper CD Covers, used the Utah's LUG [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DIYMarketing?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=CDStand.tgz Paper CD Stand], and installed it all nearby a Breezy-installed PC, right in the shop entrance. Now i'm waiting for reactions.
Local LUG?
Like I mentionned, I dont know if there is a local LUG still alive. There was some project going on (kinda like a startup LUG) in a local college, but never heard of them again, and might not promote anything much outside of the school community.
If everything goes well, maybe the store where I work could be the new "hub" of anything Linux related in town, who knows?
