The Ubuntu-eg has started to be a key player in the FOSS communities here in Egypt. We seek to get recognized and help other FOSS and LUG groups. We provide support in both Arabic and English languages. We constantly distribute CDs and printed material advocating Ubuntu and free software.
We aim to make Ubuntu a defacto standard through teaching it in universities so graduated student can have mentalities oriented towards Ubuntu/Linux and FOSS, hence growing up our community in Egypt and spread Ubuntu more faster.

Roadmap
- Our roadmap is simply advocate, promote, translate and improve Ubuntu...
Advocate...
Seize every chance to introduce Ubuntu in public. Most of our members - if not all - are involved in other LUGs and NGOs, so whenever an event is held, we spread the word of Ubuntu as it's the best Linux distribution for humans.
Utilize our members' contacts with media to expose Ubuntu to Egyptians, and cover our events in TV/radio shows, newspapers and magazines.
Promote...
Teach Ubuntu in any possible sector. Examples:
Universities
Summer training course in Faculty of Engineering Cairo University (Details)
Ubuntu workshop Faculty of Engineering Cairo University (Details)
Introduction to FOSS and Qt programming in Faculty of Engineering Ain Shams University (Details)
Education Centers
Resala education center (Wikipedia page); coordination in progress (Idea in pool)
P4Y (Facebook page); coordination in progress (Idea in pool)
And more to come...
Install festival/Release party every new Ubuntu release - A big event where 4 or more sessions are running repeatedly in parallel to guide the audience to the gateway of Ubuntu (installing, using and programming).
- Also other sessions may be presented about specific open source software like Blender, Drupal and Inkscape... etc.
- Installers squad to install Ubuntu on attendees computers.
- Filling registration and feedback forms is a must.
Help organizations and corporates to migrate to Ubuntu - Introduce open source idea, and its benefits.
- Introduce alternative open source software solutions
- Suggest companies to implement migration processes
- Train staff
'Examples:'
Resala; coordination in progress. (Idea in pool)
Sekem (Wikipedia) coordination with Mr. Stephan Hermann at Linux4Africa and contacting Sekem themselves is in progress.
Ubuntu-EG magazine An arabic e-magazine for our community that has some picks from our blogs in our LoCo portal
Ubuntu-EG Podcast - An Arabic talk show about all Ubuntu's news and our community news
Ubuntu-EG Youtube Group A Youtube group channel with illustrative videos about various stuff in Ubuntu

Supporters squad A mobile team ready to support Ubuntu userس all over Egypt, by phone or visits, not just on mailing lists, forums or IRC. (List)
Media distribution - A fully updated/upgraded remastered Ubuntu LiveCD with extra packages installed (video/audio codecs, language packs...etc or any other specific packages for specific event or occasion) to be distributed for free in any event or occasion. Also a partial mirror of Ubuntu archives for those who have enough free space and don't have fast Internet access.
Finding sponsors/Fund raiser events - Seeking an Ubuntu believer company to sponsor our events and provide contacts in order to engage with business market, governmental sectors and education institutes...etc.
Translate...
Translate ubotto factoids into Arabic.
Translate community documentation wiki pages into Arabic.
Translate Ubuntu manual into Arabic. - This will be done either by translating whole projects or collaborating with other FOSS groups depending on how many translators volunteered
Develop and Improve...
Encourage our members to contribute by writing articles in Ubuntu community documentation and our portal
Encourage others to contribute by reporting bugs, introducing Launchpad.net and bugs utilities is the key. All explained here
Always encourage new comers to open source their code for a better quality and more powerful software.

Help organizations and corporates to migrate to Ubuntu
Engage with Resala. This page explains more.
Engage with P4Y(Programming for Youth group). We think we can start teaching programming for youngsters. Islam El Wazery and Mohammed Gamal are our main contacts with this group.
Ubuntu-eg magazine. We are thinking about creating an e-magazine basically in Arabic for our community. It can be mainly some picked article from the members' blogs. Islam Al Wazery and Anas Emad volunteered for the design and graphics of the magazine.
Ubuntu-eg podcast. It is supposed to be a talk show in Arabic about all the geeky stuff in Ubuntu world and our group. Still doesn't have a maintainer yet.
Support squad. We are planning to have a team ready to support Ubuntu user in person, not just on mailing lists and IRC. This can only be achieved if the team increases in size.
Translating Ubuntu Manual to Arabic. Currently we have limited translation resources, but we can collaborate with other FOSS groups to get this manual translated. Mohamed Saudi volunteered for the job.
