Fax software
If your computer comes with a fax modem, type the following at a shell prompt to install fax sending and receiving software:
sudo apt-get install slmodem efax-gtk
and enter your password if prompted. (Alternatively, you can use the synaptic graphics interface to install these two packages). You should now find the fax software listed under Office software in your menu system. You may wish to start, the first time you run it, by selecting "Settings" from the File menu and entering your name and phone number. Also, within the Settings dialog, under "modem", I had to change the serial device to "modem". Also, under "page", you might want to select your default paper size. With your phone connected, you should now be able to send and receive faxes.
