Hi all,

I love brown! That's enough isn't it? Smile :)

Alright then - I'm an Ubuntu enthusiast from Canberra, Australia.

Looking Back

Unix administrator since the early 1990's, Linux since 2000. Ubuntu since November 2004.

I'm a software engineer / IT manager, mostly working with Oracle at the back end and excellent FOSS tools such as Python and Zope at the front.

Away from work, my primary (non-Ubuntu) FOSS contributions have been within the [http://www.oztivo.net/ OzTiVo community]. I'm also a member of [http://www.linux.org.au/ Linux Australia].

Some of my other work can be found at http://www.liberatedcomputing.net/ .

Ubuntu

I feel the spirit of Ubuntu matches well with my own philosophies summarised in part by my chosen domain (liberatedcomputing.net). The Code of Conduct strongly aligns with my own thoughts on the way people should behave and treat each other generally.

  • Since June 2005 I've been a regular helper on IRC, mostly on #ubuntu, #kubuntu, and more recently #edubuntu. I would average a couple of hours a day.
  • I make a point of keeping ubotu (the channel bot) factoids up to date.
  • I do [wiki:LaptopTestingTeam/DellInspiron500m testing] on my laptop as part of the LaptopTestingTeam.

  • A recipe I've submitted for the Official Ubuntu Book has been accepted.
  • I'm involved with the AustralianTeam (including being its Launchpad Owner/Administrator).

  • I [https://launchpad.net/people/bimberi/+reportedbugs report bugs] (and try to make sure they're not duplicates).

  • My one wiki page is listed below and I've edited many others.

Looking Forward

  • Encouraging the company I work through to become an Ubuntu support provider (and facilitating the process). I feel that while promotion/awareness is important, the availability of local support is a key to IT managers considering Ubuntu as an alternative.
  • Getting involved with Ubuntu marketing and advocacy.
  • Trying my hand at packaging.
  • Getting into bug triage (hm, if everyone triaged a bug a day...)
  • Continuing to help out in #*ubuntu*.
  • My wife runs a home-based embroidery business and we're considering having a go at some Ubuntu related embroidered merchandise (with permission of course). [http://www.liberatedcomputing.net/ubuntu/embroidery Here is our prototype].

Cheers, Dave.
