Location: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Current work: Full-time climate modeller for the Canadian Government.

Past jobs: system administrator for various university research groups, both in Canada and in the US. These jobs mostly consisted of working on Unix servers (AIX, Solaris), Linux, and Windows machines, and being the all-around support guy for the end-users.

Programming skills: I do Fortran coding for my day-time job, a skill not much in demand in the world of Ubuntu. But I can do Perl and Shell scripting when needed.

Experience with Linux: I have been using Linux, both as a hobby and as a job, since the late 1990s: Red Hat, Fedora, Mandrake, and now Ubuntu (since a pre-release version of Warty in September 2004). I have been using and maintaining Unix servers since the early 1990s.

On March 7 2005, I have signed the [http://www.ubuntulinux.org/community/conduct code of conduct] and self-appointed myself [https://www.ubuntulinux.org/community/processes/newmember Ubuntite].

On May 10 2005, I officially [http://people.ubuntu.com/~mako/cc-summary-20050510.html became] an [http://www.ubuntulinux.org/community/processes/newmember Ubuntu Member].

Contributions to Ubuntu:

* I am a member of the ["LaptopTestingTeam"] and the ["DocumentationTeam"]

* I have been maintaining the list of future events and contributing some "In the Press" articles to [http://fridge.ubuntu.com/ the Fridge].

* Between October 4 2004 and April 9 2005 I have posted 350 messages on the Ubuntu-users list, 42 times on the Ubuntu-devel list and 17 times on the Sounder list. The majority of these messages (especially on ubuntu-users) were written to answer questions of users. I try to help users on the irc #ubuntu channel in a similar manner.

* I have submitted a few patches for inclusion in Ubuntu:

* Between October 3 2004 and April 10 2005 I have filled 37 bugs in the bugzilla, and I have contributed in one form or another to a total of 153 bugs in the bugzilla. The main emphasis I have been trying to achieve was to help with the initial bug triage in the hope that this will make the life easier for the Ubuntu developers and allow them to concentrate on serious bugs.

Here are the total number of bugs for various type of contributions during that time period, with a few examples from the bugzilla for each category:

The Future:

While maintaining my current level of involvement in Ubuntu, I'm hoping during the 6 months of the Dapper release cycle to help in these 2 areas:

* I'm planning in learning to create Debian packages to one day help the ["MOTU"] team. * And I want to learn to code in Python
