Some proposed agenda-topics are below. Some of them were already discussed but without decision.
- What can we do to revive ubuntu-be ? Some thoughts and ideas:
- Tom:
- Throwing Ubuntu LAN parties (for playing games, sharing copyright-free files, drinking, having fun,...) ?
Looking at other local Ubuntu clubs for ideas on how to attract & attain members.
Always take special care of the ladies - they diversify the group, which is more fun for everyone.
Telling people about the group & the fun, and inviting them to join.
- Organizing real life activities (paintball, carting, swimming, travel, weekends, camping,...)
Setting SMART goals, creating a roadmap to them.
- Basically, ubuntu-be's success depends on whether it's fun for it's members.
- We are a group of Belgian Ubuntu users, that's what brought us together. But many members are looking for something other than just Ubuntu talk - they are looking for friends, social contact and a good time.
- Jean7491:
- As this is objective of Ubuntu-be, the promotion of Ubuntu in Belgium should be the priority : a roadmap, when, where and how reach this objective. Activities organized by Ubuntu-be and participation to activities organized by other groups. Social events and good time are also usefull to improve the contact between the members and their feeling in the group.
- Additional topic : approx. 380 volunteers joined the group of Ubuntu support points (on the map) : how can we associate this group to Ubuntu-be events and actions ?
Even if the intention is good and if most people will be fine with the usage of the database to contact the support points regarding event, I feel it is not appropriate. When they register, support points are informed that the information they gave will only be used to contact them about the commitments they made at registration. These commitments are limited to distribute CDs, give demo or help with the installation of Ubuntu. They do not grant us the permission to sent them email about random subjects, even good and interesting ones. --PierreBuyle
- People who take the initiative to register as support points are willing to contribute to the promotion of Ubuntu : they will be interested by these local events. For each event, it is about 10 to 30 concerned support points. The registration form for support points has to be completed with a question about receiving email regarding local Ubuntu events and these emails have to include the possibility to refuse further emails. It is a pity to underestimate the potential of these volunteers when there is a lack of volunteers in the mailing-list. - Jean7491
I'm not against contacting support point and inform them about Ubuntu event and where they can also help. But I'm worried to use these personal information for a purpose not announced when they where collected. You can't draw a clear and universal line between acceptable but unannounced uses and unacceptable ones. It's purely subjective. As I said, most people will be fine with the usage you suggest (for instance, I'm fine with it) but few may be bothered. Should the information be used this way, we must take special care of these few. Your opt-out suggestion may be an acceptable compromise. But we will need to find someone/something to maintain that information about who may be contacted. The current support point system could not do that and would need to be adapted. An other alternative is to use this information a single time an mail all support point to invite them to join the mailing list to stay informed on what's going on in the community. Or better, to join a Launchpad team dedicated to Ubuntu-be events with it's own mailing list (take about 5 min to setup). Off course, an invitation to the team could be presented on registration to encourage new support point to join the fun.--PierreBuyle

I propose to start defining the needs for promoting Ubuntu-be.org organized/endorsed events on the website as a blueprint. I will try to draft a first proposition before the meeting. I doubt I will be able to join the meeting. I can probably take the lead of the blueprint if needed/wanted. See https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu-belgium/+spec/website-events
Wiki cleaning: There is some old content on the wiki and it believe it discourage newcomers. The most obvious pages are BelgianTeam/TODO, BelgianTeam/People and this page (the agenda is full of already discussed items). The BelgianTeam is quite cluttered too.
