Focus Groups(FGs) allow the Beginners Team to organize around different areas of the Ubuntu Community. The Ubuntu Beginners team has two types of focus groups. Most focus groups are associated with at least one official Ubuntu team. (ie., Bugs Focus Group is associated with the Bug Squad, Bug Control, Testing and Quality teams). The purpose of these focus groups is to help people become more active in the Ubuntu Community. Mentoring process for each Focus Group(FG) will be handled by that particular FG members. For more information, visit each Focus Group pages.

'''Focus Group POCs'''

Each Focus Group has a Point Of Contact(POC) who is responsible for organizing, inspiring, and being the first level of dispute resolution. It is the responsibility of the POC for maintaining a bridge between the Official Teams and Beginners Team FG and make sure that we provide the right way to enter the community and contribute. Focus Group POCs are nominated and elected by the Focus Group Members for a period of six months and will be cycled.

   * Provide prospective members with a wide array of resources for learning and answering their questions.
   * Help them find and integrate into the focus group of their choice.
   * Assist prospective members creating and maintaining their wiki and launchpad pages.
   * Help the prospective member get his Community Recommendation.

Guides will be qualified in specialized areas of the community such as accessibility, packaging, documentation, etc. If a person is working towards joining a specific Ubuntu team they will be assigned a Mentor by that particular Focus Group, who is qualified in that area. The responsibilities of Guides working with people trying to contribute and/or join an Ubuntu team are:
   * Ensure the mentee is familiar with the resources the associated FG team uses
   * Answering questions about the associated team
   * Providing feedback to the mentee on their activities in relation to the associated team

Feel free to join #ubuntu-beginners-team on IRC and get to know many people in our community.

== Padawan ==

{{http://www.the11thhour.com/archives/012000/features/images/padawan_shadow.jpg}}

Padawan is used to identify people interested in joining the Beginner Team. It is generally agreed that seeking membership is a dynamic process, without strict guidelines. Each candidate is considered on his or her merits, and some members will naturally progress through the membership process faster or slower then others.

The padawan focus group is charged with assisting padawan such that this process goes as smoothly as possible.

=== May the force be with you (membership path). ===

Now that you are a padawan ...

 1. Meet & greet. This is an important first step , does the potential new member mesh well with the team ?
 1. Once it becomes apparent someone is interested / dedicated, a BT member "sponsors" them as a padawan.
 1. Measuring up ~ The quiz is administered to assess general knowledge base and ensure potential new members are competent.
 1. Padawan are brought up to speed on how the team functions, personal wiki pages, GPG signed CoC, etc.
 1. Once masters feel they are ready, potential new members will then be nominated for a team approval at team meetings.

The new user focus group will provide oversight and guidance so that the process of membership goes as smooth as possible.

During the initiation, the Sangha will be assessing the padawan.

== Jedi Fellows ==

{{http://news.softpedia.com/images/news2/Become-An-Ubuntu-039-Jedi-Master-039-2.png}}

Beginning team members who are also Ubuntu Members qualify as Fellows. The use of Fellows is intended to encourage and acknowledge Ubuntu Membership and does not grant any special powers or privileges on the Beginner Team.
