Overture

The Tangerine icon set began as a proof of the "tangoification" concept of the Human Ubuntu icons designed for Dapper. The community wanted to contribute to the art landscape and as the official Human icons first being released in Dapper are all designed by a contracted artist and not the community. Making those icons [http://tango-project.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines Tango-styled] require only little changes in most parts.

What makes Tango and Tangerine truely shine and fit in with your Ubuntu desktop is that many of the application icons upstream (banshee, evince, soundjuicer ...) are actually styled and designed according to the same guidelines (see link above) providing more consistency.

Downloading

The Tangerine icon set is installed by default with ubuntu.
