Roadmap

  • State LUG Collaboration: Contact and pooling of resources with the state LUGs and users groups to promote events to further Ubuntu as a alternative method of computing using desktop, server, and mobile versions. We have already established a relationship with:

We plan to further expand our relations with the following: [http://www.lugy.net LUG of Yavapai], [http://www.tfug.org/ tfug(Tucson)], [http://www.aztcs.org/ Tucson Computer Society],and [http://www.flaglug.org/ LUNA(Flagstaff LUG)].

  • State Wide BarCamp: It is our plan to co-host a [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArizonaTeam/OpenSourceConference BarCamp] in Phoenix in later part of 2008. We are actively advocating with the state LUGs to help in the co-hosting of this event. To date, [http://plug.phoenix.az.us Phoenix LUG(plugaz)] is actively working with our LoCo on the initial planning. They are also providing contact with some of the other Phoenix LUGs. This is an event that we are in the early stages of planning, but this should help to advocate for Ubuntu, Open Source Education, and serve as a milestone event to help cement relations between our LoCo and the state LUGs. [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArizonaTeam/OpenSourceConference Wiki Planning Page for Conference]

  • Intrepid Ibex 8.10: Planning for the next Ubuntu release, Intrepid Ibex 8.10, using our Hardy Release Party and Installfest experience to improve our success. Areas to concentrate on include location, advertising(print and radio), flyer distribution, and if we earn Ubuntu Team Approval, how to handle the bulk CD shipment so as to maximize Canonical's trust and outlay of funds in providing this resource.

    • We have already made contact with [http://asulug.org/ ASU LUG]. The professor that oversees the LUG is in favor of combining our two installfests into one. They are willing to host events on the campus of Arizona State University. This seems to be a move in the right direction for expanding our installfest parties. They are very centrally located in Phoenix, offer dedicated rooms with hard wired internet, and a large pool of students. This would surely lead to larger and more successful events, and a real opportunity to not only increase the awareness of Ubuntu in the State of Arizona, but to also increase our membership. The professors says they have about 40 members, and most of them use Ubuntu.

  • Local Ubuntu Advocacy: Continue to burn and distributed Ubuntu CDs for release parties, installfests, and for team members to distribute to family, friends, neighbors, etc.
