Amarok
Installation
To install amaroK, first follow these instructions:
RestrictedFormats - adding support for MP3, DVD and other multimedia formats
AddingRepositoriesHowto - enabling installation of the software for your computer, in the "universe" and "multiverse" repositories which is where amaroK is located
Some KDE/qt libraries will be installed as well since amaroK is a KDE application.
sudo apt-get install amarok amarok-engines
Customizing
If this is the first qt application you have used under gnome you probably noticed that large fonts and other various UI blemishes. Installing kcontrol (KDE control center) you will be able to customize the look and feel of KDE applications.
sudo apt-get install kcontrol
After that is installed launch kcontrol by going to: Application>Run Application...>kcontrol That will give you this and here is how I have my fonts configured.

Feel free to change the look and feel as you like.
Sound
amaroK by default uses the aRts (KDE sound engine. Change the sound engine by going to Settings>Configure amaroK>Engine Change the engine to xine, gstreamer works also but as of now, xine is still superior.

Feel free to experiment with gstreamer and xine.

amaroK provides a very useful and responsive music playback enviornment. Some of its features include:
- Audio Scrobbler integration
- On the fly lyrics
- Smart Playlist generation
- Mysql and SQLite database capability
