• The latest release of Ubuntu is OUT! [http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon)] was released on October 18, 2007. Preparation is beginning for the next release [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyReleaseSchedule Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)] tentatively scheduled for a April 24, 2008 release.

• The Alabama Team is going to shoot for getting Approved LoCo status by the time that Ubuntu 8.10 is released. That gives us one year to finish the [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoGettingApproved requirements for gaining Approved LoCo status]. Currently, there are 8 Approved US teams. There will be a checklist up on the wiki to outline the steps that we need to do for submitting our Approval Application.

We hope to help spread the word about Ubuntu and Linux to more people in this area. We will supply tech help, advice, and support to those who need it.
